Del Meets the Donald

Hi GDS 108 Students:
As my first post, I thought I would give you one the most memorable stories I encountered while serving as Mahomet-Seymour High School's principal. Last summer my wife and I were on a 7-day tour of New York City with our high school chorus program. The choir performed at the United Nations building and St. John's Cathedral, --but that's not the story!

On our last day in the city we basically had some free time. Being the good husband I am, I agree to take the subway to 34th street and go shopping with my wife. If you've been to NYC you know this is a mecca for shoppers. While doing some speed shopping at Macy's, I decided to depart my wife's company and go down the first floor and relax. To my surprise, there was a huge crowd gathering. I asked the person next to me what was up and he replied, "The Donald is coming!" After further questioning, I found out that Donald Trump was due to arrive in about 15 minutes to open up his new line of signature wrist watches.

To make a long story short, I found out that if I bought a "Trump" watch from Macy's that particular day there was a special reward attached. I would get to personally meet Mr. Trump, he would sign my watch case and I'd then get my picture taken with him. I figured this offer was a once in a lifetime opportunity I couldn't pass on. Well, as you can see, I did get to meet Donald and if you like, I will show you the "watch" when you come the GDS 108.

To see the faces of the students when I showed them the attached picture my wife took when we returned from Macy's was quite memorable. Ironically, we left New York at 4:00 p.m. that day from Trump Towers.
